Russian madness from Samara. Cheese People is a four-piece band that mixes together funk, disco, electronica and hip-hop and has no analogues in Russia and even in the whole world. The sound is influenced by european indie and electronica bands and the vocals are bit like Russian adaptation of j-pop vocal style. This band actually reminded some of ?apanese female fronted bands like YMCK, Plus-Tech Squeeze Box etc. They gained some attention after their song Uaaa…a! appeared in 2008 Russian movie hit Rozidgysh (Prank) and now Cheese People are smashing clubs all over the country. Their debut self-titled release is varying from electronic pieces similar to The Prodigy to post-punk songs like Catch U. It’s a structural madness that needs a few spins before you get into it. If you are looking for some fresh and good Russian bands don’t miss this crazy team. (via indiespeaker.com)
Cheese People are the heroes of the loudest hype in Russia nowadays – suddenly this quartet of bashful unremarkable students from the banks of Volga river became the most fashionable disco-punk band in the country. Cheese People already had participated in a few important international festivals and shared the stage with Datarock, Solex and Junior Boys, and played a lot of crazy club shows. 12th September 2008 their debut eponymous CD will be released by Moscow-based indie-label Snegiri Music. It's hard to believe that all of this 11 frisky tracks were recorded in the bedroom of Anton Zalygin – and it's seems incredible, that he had not been inspired by modern british glam nu-ravers. This no-budget self-produced record sounds more poverfull and groovy than all russian major hits – due to the felicitous combination of catchy melodies, senseless lyrics, a thorough work with samples and unusual meow-style vocal by Olya Chubarova, this band can become a first international indiependent hitbraker from Russia since TaTu. They are really too good to be true, and too ambitious to fail. Fortunately, they are not wasting the time and already seek for international partnership – by the way, the brilliant cover artwork of the CD was made by Australian comics artist Marc Lynch. Probably, the only thing can prevent their success is russian mafia (Cheese People already had some problems) and disgusting character of good-looking frontwoman –when this cheese people babe is in bad mood, she can just tear off one's head.
